Living in a Nutshell

No, it’s nothing dirty and it won’t make you feel guilty in the morning! I just couldn’t wait to share my great find for designer pillows you can make yourself---for a lot less.

I love the DWELL STUDIO home design collection which you can find at higher-end home stores and at their website dwellstudio.com. But their linen pillow line (especially the “Flora” design which I adore) starts at around $100.  So I went to bluefly.com and they had a set of four DWELL linen placemats in “Flora” for $34.99.

I already had two down pillow forms I wanted to cover but they were a bit longer than the placemats.  Luckily, each placemat was lined with a contrasting gray fabric that I was able to use as inserts on the side of each pillow case.  I just love the way they turned out and they soon became the inspiration for painting my living room slate gray. Take a look.

I loved them so much that I also ordered from bluefly.com a set of four DWELL “Bodoni” linen placemats for smaller toss pillows I use to complete the look on my sofa.

If you don’t feel confident with your sewing skills, you can always visit your local dry cleaner and ask them to sew a few simple seams for you. You can ask them to put a zipper in on the side so you can always remove and wash the pillow cases.
