Living in a Nutshell

Yes, I know what you’re thinking---who needs another chalkboard painted wall in their home but until I actually painted one myself I had no idea how much fun it could add to a space…especially a small, living in a nutshell kitchen.  And when it came to selling my pied-a-terre in Brooklyn (translation: tiny one bedroom off the Brooklyn Bridge) it was the main feature that the new buyers loved and asked not to change. The apartment sold in one day! Who knew that a little $14 can of Benjamin Moore Studio Finishes Chalkboard paint could make such a big difference in this difficult seller’s market.

I am not an artist but I decided to draw an “Anatomy of a Cake.”

Have fun with it since you can erase as many times as you need to.  If you can’t draw, just write your favorite quote or poem.  I also thought since the chalkboard wall was in the kitchen that writing chemical equations for sugar or water or other food ingredients would be fun too.

I have since learned that you can buy tintable chalkboard paint so you don’t only have to use school house black or green.  Check out the hardwarecity.com for their tintable chalkboard paint and go crazy with color.

And finally, I have to give props to Martha for creating this cool, tone on tone gray chalkboard painted wall calendar.  Wish I had thought of it! Go to her link for more information.
